Sneaky ingredients to watch out for in "healthy" products.
A few days ago, a fellow clean-ingredient business called Branch Basics discovered a hidden toxin in a different company's Golden Milk blend.
The co-owner goes on to say that this is why it is so important to read the ingredient list very closely, as there are often sneaky additives that aren't supporting your well-being even though the product is being marketed as "all natural", "healthy", and "clean & pure".
So, what did she find?
Maltodextrin – an excitotoxin that is linked to exciting our brains, behavioral issues and gut issues. It is an intensely processed additive found in many "healthy" foods (start looking!)
The glycemic index in maltodextrin is actually HIGHER than in table sugar, meaning it can cause a spike in your blood sugar shortly after eating foods that have it. It’s suggested that it causes all sorts of gut issues and known to increase the bad bacteria, which also affects your mind. It’s just yuck.
Please Note: This is not to shame other brands or products, but to help you be aware of what to look for on packaging for the health of you and your loved ones.
What did she do?
In the end, Brand Basics was very happy to discover OUR DelighTeas Golden Milk blend, appreciating our woman (and mama) owned business that delivers transparent ingredient lists and premium 100% organic teas and spice blends. She threw away the old stuff.
Here are a few other things that are commonly snuck into "healthy" products. Be on the lookout for:
Hydrogenated oils, aka trans fat
Chinese cinnamon (Typically labeled as just Cinnamon, this variation is cheaper and not as healthy as Ceylon "True" Cinnamon. We only use Organic Ceylon Cinnamon in both our Golden Milk and Masala Chai blends.)
Artificial sweeteners & added sugars (including high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, stevia, etc)
A&I Nutreats was founded with the mantra “Dedicated to your health.” It inspires every action that we take, and every product that we make. Long story short, read the ingredients and know what is in your food. It might be time to get rid of a few items, and start fresh!
